Post Game engine?
Hello, I wonder if it's hard to program a game engine like the early versions of Tibia (6.0 - 7.0) or a more advanced engine as phobos?

Does it takes weeks, months or years to learn to code the game engine?

I bet years of practice. At least one if you're good. I remember Zero saying something about how he learned programming

Untrue! He lost two in serious programming accident involving high velocity keyboardshrapnel.

But back to topic, that depends realy I guess, if you are a fast learner and have a good ability to remember and plan a good structure I guess it could take half a year to a year to program something similar to a game engine.
I'd say a minimum of half a year if you start from scratch and learn fast.

Kind regards, Faw~

Edit: My project coach for school said it would probably take me (with a basic knowhow about programming) over half of the time we have for the project (100hours) to learn a entierly new language (Ruby) then most of the rest to build a simple 3d physics engine. (grab and drop/throw/push style)

Your could always use early OTServ source and edit from there if you know the basics of C++.
