A lot of progress has been made with the new website. While it does look identical to our current one, there are a ton of internal differences! One significant change, that might cause some issues, is that we are using a new URL style with the new website -- we will not be using dashes (-) anymore, we will be using forward slashes (/). That means that "library-bestiary-squirrel" would become "library/bestiary/squirrel". We believe that this URL style fits the web more, and is generally more attractive.

Smush.it - Yup, we smushed our website! Using the Smush.it site we trimmed over 20% of our site's images -- and since Smush.it is a lossless optimizer, the site looks identical, but smaller! How cool is that?

I've put a lot of time and effort into optimizing the website to withstand an effect such as the infamous "Digg Effect". If our server is ever hammered, we will not go down.. or at least it won't be because of the website, the server can only stand so much..

What optimizations have I done? Well first and foremost, the site is 100% XHTML 1.1 Strict valid -- this means that our website should seem the same in most conventional browsers, however it still looks kind of funky in IE5.5 and IE6. We've also replaced our archaic method of using javascript for the menu hover, now we use a method that incorporates CSS-Sprites, which works in all browsers, and doesn't require javascript! Right now we're sending E-Tags to your browser to identify items, and cache them -- in our new website we will be doing that in addition to sending our content compressed, gzipped. By gzipping content we save you a ton of bandwidth, and the page also loads a lot smoother too (for example: a 40KB file might be compressed to 10KB)

.. The sad part is that everything looks the same. I'm looking for alternative display methods for the bestiary and the gallery, I have a couple of methods in mind, but they require javascript -- which I'm willing to do, but it will take some time. If you guys have any suggestions for website features, please let me know. Now would be the time to request anything

Can you separate Creatures on categories? (example: http://www.portalphobos.com.br/pin/monstros/geral.php)
Show the monsters table, and when click on monster, open a popup with informations?
In The Galery, i would use popups, fast and simple...
I don't know what you want, so then be complicated

Thanks for your feedback!

I'm very well aware of AJAX, and have considered it thoroughly. I just like researching all possibilities, especially ones that don't involve javascript.

@Camila
Are you referring to popups as in a popup window or like Lightbox? I was considering something like Lightbox. However, it's important to note that we cannot simply throw third-party assets onto our website. Everything has to match the theme, which is what takes time.

@Jason
So, Lightbox are beautiful compared with Popup window, but if a person has a slow internet, lightbox are bad...

A popup is very obtrusive and "in your face", in my opinion :P

What about pagination on the highscore pages to show more than 50 players? (:

I just wanted to see if you could add a small detail to the forums. I notice that there are symbols next to the forums indicating either a new thread of post and etc, but there is no Legend to show what each image mean. I know that if you scroll over the image it would indicate what each picture means. It's nothing serious of course, but would be a nice small addition to the site (At least for those who haven't notice it).

Nice catch Raynack, I'll see what I can do about that.

Edit: I overlooked this too, but at the very bottom of the page there is already a key :twisted:

Yea I just notice that there was a legend. I guess my browser doesn't show the pictures near it. I have also realized that this forum doesn't "bump" it's threads when there a recent post. I'm not sure if you intended to have it this way to keep old threads around to be revived or if your currently working on it.

Just trying to help out. :)
