Recent development and the future of Phobos

Over the past few months, we have made good progress in some areas of development, most notably with the new map editor. We have also cleared up most of the unresolved game mechanic issues, including details of the skills, spell/feat and crafting systems. However otherwise, progress has been variable and slow.

We know that during this time it has become increasingly frustrating for you, as you want to play Phobos. We also appreciate that it must be equally disappointing that we cannot give an estimated time for release. So from now on we are going to start sharing more information on development by continually updating a to-do list. We are going to be keeping the supporters particularly well updated with progress, and expect them to nag us if we're not working hard enough. We have also closed several public boards. This is for two reasons: firstly, less unrelated material for staff to moderate or respond to will speed up development; secondly, we feel that they gave the wrong impression about our own progress.

This doesn't mean we want less contact with you, quite the opposite. By having a more public and honest report of development, we hope to give ourselves a well-needed kick in the right direction and to keep striding (not crawling) forward towards a release. We have been trying to do the same within staff, to improve communication. This is actually already showing signs of working; development over the last 2-3 weeks has been much better than before. We want to see the release as much as you do!

The updated to-do list may be found here.

Yours,

I'm worried about the 10% of the server. I believe it was quite a while since you told us you would re-write the server and client?

Anyhow I'm really happy and I believe you've earned my trust back so from now on I believe in Phobos. :like:

Good news :)
euh nordberg dont be worried, dont they only have like 1 or 2 guys on the server / cilent ?
while they got tons of stuff on graphics and story

i am actaully disspointed in the monsters percent since your saying its 95%
either you guys work fast on designing the monsters or you take long which it has been and you do more than one monster at a time. hopefully its more monsters than im thinking

outfits at 95% shocking would think its 100% by now but yeah you must have bare lot of different outfits for the NPCs, guardians and us :)

happy about that

im geussing another year before test <-- thats what i think and i`d prefer a finished game than a not finished one

Yeah those 10% are not pretty, but we only are two programmers on the team. So far most of my coding time was spent on making new editors for the staff, since those are not listed under "coding" it looks like it's a bit lacking there. I'd say editors are somewhere around 60%, or more detailed: map editor 80%, data editor 40%. The new map editor is already in active use. Once work moves from editors to server again, there should be rapid progress.

If we only had 2 programmers too! Maybe we could've reached 10% as well already.

Good luck guys.

Thank you for that encouraging post K-Zodron. I really appreciate that you take your time posting here when you probably have so much others to do! :)

Wow! I'm not alone when telling this, ur server/client coding ratio SUCKS!! xD xD xD
You know that there's other MMORPGs that are WORKING and ONLINE?
(for example K-Zodron's one)

Of course DahBe, but if you actually read what the note says:

Note: The original client and server are being rewritten because it is more efficient to rewrite than modify the old code, especially as some major changes are needed to implement certain special features.
