Greetings,

It has been a while since my last post in the diaries. Today I thought the time was right for sharing some information on the project status.

As we all know there have been several teasers showing nice new features that will be or even have been implemented. Unfortunately those features take time; but they increase the feel for a great gameplay. We've been trying to get the first feeling of the game right. In order to do so we had to create a lot of content. And with a lot, I really mean a lot! I did a small head count on NPCs. 152. There will be 152 unique NPCs walking around in Erasan and growing! All of them (oke maybe not all, some are a bit to themselves) are ready to tell you their life stories, helping you out with your problems and have got quests ready to be fulfilled.

In order to turn Phobos in to a true story and RPG we've been trying to get all our back up stories ready for you to read. Over a hundred books (and more coming everyday!) can be found. With information on the game, cities, towns and mythic tales. Tips and tricks for hunting and secret places which you would never find by yourself! Certain features like for example potion brewing really requires you to interact with NPCs and books. For example: books will explain you the way of brewing; where a potion always consists out of 3 components: an active ingredient, a neutraliser and a stabiliser. And beware! If you'd forget to add something, you might create a poison!

Now let's get back to my department; programming. As you might know, I'm working on the client side, while Tobias works on the server side and the additional tools required for content adding (Map Editor, Object Editor, etc.) This devision in programming is good, as we can focus our attention on the thing we do best. We use a protocol to make sure the client can talk to the server without any problems.

Due to the constant flow of new content we found it (after uploading over 60 versions to the team) necessary to creating a patching tool! This tool makes it easy for us to add new features and by just a click, everyone has them too :) For beta this is a great advantage. We hope to get a lot of feedback on every aspect of the game. Some of them would require a client update.

Where patching helps for the beta. We've also been working on the connection speed. As I've started this diary entry, we'd like your first impression of the game to be great, like a true story. One problem is: we don't all live in the Netherlands.. But to achieve this feeling we've been working on a new technique which increases the smoothness of walking. The map of Phobos is stored on the server and while walking you download parts of the map with content, like equipment and other players of course. This process can be rather slow if you're on the other side of the world. This new technique divides the feel of lag by almost 2. Jason (who lives in the states) has been our guinea pig for the last couple of days and at the end his comment was clean and simple: "I run smooth! :D".

Alright, enough for today. Thanks for your patience, we're getting closer and closer.

Kind Regards,

Robbert

I can't wait to play!!!

Nice Diary, Robbert!!! Keep doing your job!

I wonder about Andre's impressions about the Lag, since the connection here in Brasil is worse than EUA's connection.

Even with "Bad Connection" ping status I can move smoothly through the world of Erasan! Its even tricky because sometimes you just see so many things coming at you! And you most likely need to adapt yourself to the speed in order to survive the enemy charge haha. Let's go guys! ;)
