Indeed, why would anyone walk normally when walking diagonally is much faster? I think it will be abused by skilled players.

I agree, sidestepping should be slower than walking 1sm horizontal or vertical but a little quicker than walking the 2sm to the same square.

I think it's fine, makes movement efficiency more important in combat which is cool.

Being slower would make the sidestep very strange. The way to go is having a cooldown to walk again after a sidestep.

This would be no problem at all if Phobos had a hex grid instead of a square grid. But I guess it's too late for that now.

Walking diagonal is something you'd need to get used to. It goes 1.41 times slower (sqrt of 2) than walking straight so it is not faster at all. It's the true speed.

Having the everyone walk at 1/sqrt(2) at the diagonals solves the issue, but I would still prefer hex grid maps, a much more elegant solution.
